Marcelo Rojas

Marcelo Rojas

Marcelo Rojas has a CV as musicalizador of Argentine tango decidedly enviable: "passes" music in one of the temples of the tango in Buenos Aires, the legendary Confiteria Ideal, "sounds" in festivals, conferences, in very important milongas of the Argentine capital, and now around the world, from Brazil to Europe.

Not only that, it is one of the most popular radio DJs in forces even to the famous tango radio "The 2x4" in Baires.

We had a chat with him. Here it is: What music do you like to "play" in a milonga?
I like to offer all possible variety of orchestras, historical periods, rhythms, styles, so as to allow the dancers to enjoy all the vast repertoire of the tango. This is my constant challenge.

What are your favorite tango artists?
They are so numerous that it would be impossible to mention all them. But as a DJ I have to be as a football referee: never tell the favorite team (orchestra). I have to be completely impartial.

Do you like the electronic tango or do you prefer the orchestras of the golden years?
I have no problem in "playing" both the traditional and electronic. It all depends on what I feel and the needs of the public. For me, no controversy.

A tango dj listen only tango? What else do you listen to?
A DJ should not only listen, but also feel the passion for this task. Knowledge of the history and present of this music is fundamental, as well as understand what is the public sentiment in milonga.

What is the difference between a playlist for the milonga and a playlist for radio?
The fundamental difference is that in milonga is built exclusively to generate the desire to dance in those who are present. Radio music can try to evoke memories, feelings, paths, you can afford to "pass" forgotten artists and new formations.

How did you start doing musicalizador?
I have always been passionate about music. I was born, lived and live in a neighborhood that is the essence of tango, "La Boca." When I was younger (now I am 46 years old) I did musicalizador at birthday parties of my friends, other music, far from the tango. But, see the fate, I started working as a waiter in a milonga, I was 23 and slowly I combined my passion for dj with that for the tango, which was beginning to discover. They have joined forces and are no longer separate. How to dance and hug!

And how did you become musicalizador the "Confiteria Ideal"?
About 13 years ago, the organizers of the milonga on Sunday and Monday at the Confiteria Ideal invited me to do the dj to replace Felix Picherna who had gone to Europe. It worked out great. But actually I had already been musicalizador in other well known milongas: the "Galeria del Tango Argentino" and other milongas.

What differences are in the milongas between Europe and Argentina?
Each reflects the characteristics of their respective peoples. I can speak from Argentina: we are happy, passionate, messy, loyal, melancholy ... it would take so many adjectives to describe us, that our milongas are getting a different surprise. For us, the milonga is life itself! Who are for you the best European musicalizadores I really admire European DJs who are dedicated to tango with passion. There are important dancers, musicians, singers, organizers, journalists ... many are involved in this beautiful madness that is the Tango.

Xenia

Searching for a music "ancient and unknown"

Xenia has a huge background in historical research. She was grown up in a family of historians and she has an MA in a history of Russian literature. And yes, it helps a lot in looking for an old and unknown music. When she discovered the Argentinean tango started to search his music and finally she can go back to something knows - research. Looking for something new that happened 60 years ago. And she knows how to do it properly. "And it is such a relief" she says!

Pietro Cosimano

The energy animating the dance floor

Tango DJ for about 10 years. Catania- EMPIRE Musicalizador resident since 2007. Masters and Professional references: Damian Boggio, Gustavo Rosas and Angelo Grasso. Starting with a thorough knowledge of classical orchestras and singers of the golden era of Tango Argentino his selections derived from the 'energy' that drives the dance floor in that partucular evening. This will bring to the choice of the most varied musical cross (electronic tango, cortinas dance, theme selections)

Giannicola

Giannicola

The different tango colours

He comes to tango six years ago attracted by the magical sounds of classic tangos, from that moment on he was in a constant search for Orchestra and Singers preferring the golden age. Speaking of renewal in the tango, appreciates modern orchestras and bands that arise, however, from those who know what is tango.

Matteo Alecci

catania tango festival Matteo DJ

Matteo Alecci

He prefers the classical genre, the "Epoca de Oro".

He began working in 2010 as musicalizador overwhelmed by the passion of the tango played and danced.

Matteo adopts the classical scheme with tandas.

His proposals spring from the passion and the search never exhausted and the continuous attention to the ballroom energy is the basic rule that characterizes his musical choices always decided by the philological accuracy and the emotional component which distinguish his work.

Olli Eyding

catania tango festival DJ Olli Eyding Munich

Olli Eyding

He prefers tandas of the 30ies and 40ies that combine rhythm and subtetly in a sophisticated way, but he also selects more grounded tunes of the 30ies.

Some cheeky music, more challenging orchestras or carefully selected tangos of contempory orchestras give the spice. Dancing should be fun.

He tries to change the mood and complexity from tanda to tanda, adapting to the energy and the dynamics of the ronda, which he observes intensively.

So each and every tango gets straight into the legs and lets the dancers smile. His carefully chosen cortinas support the mood of the tandas instead of seperating them.

His permanent search for the best sounding transfers in lossless quality and his care for fidelity and a balanced sound make sure that dancers always feel comfortable. Olli lives and dances in Munich/Germany.

He discovered tango more than 20 years ago, yet his passion is still growing. Apart from dancing, DJing and visiting festivals he is a resident DJ in a weekly milonga in Munich, which he runs with his friends.

As an author of the German tango journal „TangoDanza“ he writes about contemporary orchestras and the history of tango music of the época de oro.
